Patrik Sandell and Emil Axelsson were at fifth place in Rally Deutschland after the first day. But then they were informed that they were disqualified because of illicit help from the public.
The reason was an incident at the start on the third SS. On the starting line with 11 seconds left to start, the engine died.
- Emil opened the door and agreed with functionaries that they would help us to push the car until it started, which is permitted. He closed the door and I felt the car started to roll, so we drive away, a couple of seconds after set time, says Patrik.
But on Friday night the disaster came. The functionaries that were in the start on SS 3 say the public help Patrik and Emil with the car, not the functionaries. Patrik and Emil can not confirm or deny, they looked forward and not backwards at that time.
- It’s quick changes in rally, says Patirk. I can’t say anything about the decision. We know that we are not allowed to take help from the public. But we asked the functionaries, and we though we agreed with them, so it’s hard to hear afterwards that they didn’t help us.
- The sad thing is not that we’re loosing points, I can take that, but we’re not allowed to continue this weekend and learn asphalt. And that we not can continue the good trend we had during the day. The chance disappears because of something we couldn’t rule over, says Patrik.
